RFID Handhelds

RFID handhelds are mobile computer devices with an RFID reader attached or integrated into the unit. RFID handhelds need to run a specific program on the device to control the reader and prompt the user through theapplication. RFID handhelds are primarily hybrid devices with the ability to use the RFID reader and a built-in barcode scanner to perform mobileuser related tasks. Most common uses for RFID handhelds are:

• Tag Commissioning RFID tags to assets
• Physical counting of assets or inventory
• Locating functions of assets
• Exception handling process
• Inspection reporting or maintenance processing

Most RFID handhelds have a slightly smaller read range compared to fixed RFID readers. The output power and antenna characteristics of the devices are less than fixed readers, thus reducing the range.
