UHF GEN2 RFID Readers

Most RFID applications involve readers that are permanently mounted to perform RFID read functions across a doorway or zones using one or more separately mounted antennas. These readers, called fixed readers, have the following characteristics:

• Network interface (wired or wireless)
• 2 to 8 antenna ports, depending on model
• Power over Ethernet (PoE) or 110VAC power supply
• RFID tag read rates over 800 tags/second
• Read range from 0 – 20 feet

RFID fixed readers are networked devices typically controlled by computer server resident software. In Asset Tracking applications, these readers are performing readfunctions for areas like:

• Doorways or room entrances
• Elevator entrances
• Shipping Docks
• Conveyor lines
• Work tables

Choosing the right RFID reader for the exact application is based on experience. In some cases, receiver sensitivity is the most critical characteristic for a successful project. For other applications, the reader’s enclosure, chassis and temperature ratings may dictate choosing a different reader.
